FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT NEWBORN SESSIONS
When should I book my newborn’s photo session?
I always recommend booking your newborn session during your second trimester to secure your preferred spot. Many parents wait until after birth, but planning ahead ensures availability. The ideal age for newborn photos is between 6 to 10 days old, when babies are at their sleepiest and easiest to pose.
What is the best age for newborn photography?
The best time for a newborn photoshoot is when your baby is between 5 to 14 days old. At this age, babies sleep more and stay curled up, making it easier to capture those adorable, posed shots. In the first week, newborns sleep up to 18 hours a day, which helps create a smooth and stress-free session.
What if my baby arrives early or late?
That’s completely okay! Once baby arrives, we’ll work together to find the best date for your session.
What should we wear?
Neutral, soft, and comfortable clothing photographs beautifully. I recommend choosing colors that complement each other rather than matching exactly.
Where do newborn sessions take place?
I offer in-home newborn sessions, allowing you and baby to stay comfortable in your own space. These sessions focus on natural, genuine moments with your new little one.
Do you provide newborn props or outfits?
I focus on a natural, lifestyle approach, so I encourage families to incorporate meaningful items from home. Simple blankets, swaddles, and baby details can create beautiful images.
What happens if my baby is unsettled or crying?
This happens more often than you might think, and it’s nothing to stress over! I have plenty of experience soothing fussy babies. If your little one needs a break for feeding, changing, or cuddles, we’ll pause and take our time. I also use calming techniques like swaddling, white noise, and gentle rocking to help them settle.
Can siblings and grandparents be included in the session?
Of course! Including siblings and grandparents makes for some of the sweetest moments. I’ll create a warm and relaxed space where everyone feels comfortable and included.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT FRESH 48 SESSIONS
When does a Fresh 48 session take place?
Fresh 48 sessions take place within the first 48 hours after your baby is born, typically while you’re still at the hospital or birth center. We’ll work together to choose a time that feels comfortable and allows for plenty of flexibility around your baby’s needs and your hospital schedule.
Where does the session take place?
Fresh 48 sessions are held in your hospital room, birth center, or wherever you and your baby are being cared for during those first days. I’ll use the natural light and environment around you to document this chapter as authentically as possible.
What if my baby arrives earlier or later than expected?
That’s completely okay! Birth doesn’t follow a schedule, and neither does your session. Your due date simply helps us prepare. Once your baby arrives, just let me know, and we’ll coordinate the best time for your Fresh 48 session.
What should we wear?
Keep it simple and comfortable. Neutral, soft colors and minimal patterns photograph beautifully, but most importantly, choose something that makes you feel comfortable after giving birth. Your baby can simply wear a diaper, hospital swaddle, or a special outfit you brought from home.
What if we’re exhausted or don’t feel camera-ready?
You just had a baby—you are not expected to look or feel perfect! These sessions are about your real story, not perfection. I’ll guide you gently, work around feedings and rest, and capture the beauty in the moments as they naturally unfold.
What happens if the baby needs to be in the NICU?
Your baby’s health always comes first. If your little one needs additional care, we can adjust the session accordingly and document what is possible. If a Fresh 48 session isn’t possible, we can also discuss another option for capturing those early days.
What if I have a C-section or a difficult recovery?
We’ll take everything at your pace. There is absolutely no expectation for you to move, stand, or pose in ways that aren’t comfortable. I’ll work around your recovery and focus on beautiful moments that feel natural and easy.
What makes Fresh 48 different from a newborn session?
A Fresh 48 session captures the beginning—the hospital room, first cuddles, tiny details, family introductions, and the raw emotion of those first hours. A newborn session typically takes place later and allows for more posing, styling, and variety. They complement each other beautifully, but each tells a different part of your baby’s story.
When should I book my Fresh 48 session?
It’s best to reserve your session during pregnancy. Since babies arrive on their own timeline, I keep your due date on my calendar and we finalize the exact session time once your baby arrives.
What if my baby is born outside of normal business hours?
No worries! Your baby certainly doesn’t need to follow business hours. Once your little one arrives, send me a message and we’ll coordinate the best available time for your session.
